The MainMail System - New User Instructions
Thank you for using The MainMail System. Since this is your
first time in the door, please take a moment to read these few and
simple instructions.
Choose a transfer protocol by entering [T] at the MainMail
Command prompt. MainMail automatically set you up with a default if
the protocol you were set up with inside of Gap exists in MainMail,
otherwise, you will have to choose one.
Choose a compression method by choosing [C] at the MainMail
Command prompt. MainMail automatically set you up by default to the
first one on the list. This might be alright for you, but you may
change it if you desire.
Choose your forums by choosing [S]elect at the MainMail Command
prompt. Once you are shown the list of active forums, you may
choose the ones you wish to participate in, and set your 'last read
message' numbers for those forums.
CAUTION: If you select forums that you have never joined, or
have not joined in a while, you will likely extract a huge amount of
mail from those forums. If this is the case, set your 'last read
message' number to about 50 messages lower than the high message
number. 50 is a good start, and keeps you from attempting to
extract an enormous amount of mail. Once you successfully download
a packet, MainMail will maintain your message numbers for you, and
keep you up to date with only mail that you have not yet read.
That's about it. Once finished with [S]elect Forums, then
choose [Q]uit to exit the SELECT area and then [D]ownload your mail.
If at any time, you need a further explaination of any of the
commands, simply request [H]elp on the command you need help with.
MainMail will then display a full explaination of how that command
works. If you request [H]elp on [H]elp, you will be shown a summary
of the commands available, and a short description of each one.
